Ange Postecoglou Accepts Blame For Struggling Spurs Performance

Ange Postecoglou has expressed that Tottenham’s recent performance ‘hurts immensely’ but is optimistic about the team’s potential for recovery.

The Spurs drew 2-2 against Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday after conceding a late equalizer, resulting in only two victories in their last ten matches across all competitions.

Currently, Tottenham sits in the lower half of the table, two points behind tenth-placed Brighton, with Postecoglou’s squad severely impacted by injuries in recent weeks.

Destiny Udogie was the latest player to leave the pitch due to injury, becoming Tottenham’s ninth unavailable player.

“It hurts me as I’m responsible,” Postecoglou conveyed to Sky Sports.

“Witnessing the effort the players are putting in makes it hurt even more. I wanted them to receive rewards for their hard work. It hurts immensely. I own the responsibility for our current situation.

“I’ll keep pushing forward. We have to do more to support these players. Our mission is to help them deliver their best performances.

“I can see how hard they’re striving. If we were at our peak, we would have secured a third and fourth goal; we were so close.”

Expressing his disappointment regarding the injury situation, the Spurs manager continued: “We’re missing the dynamic movement that’s essential.

“Where does Deki [Kulusevski] find his energy? Dom [Solanke] and Sonny [Son Heung-min] are battling with their energy levels and not as sharp as we can be.

“We’re facing numerous challenges, and there’s no consistency in getting players back to rejuvenate the team. Just as we recover one, we seem to lose another.”

“Eventually, we will have a healthy squad and will be able to perform at a high standard. We’ve demonstrated that we can defeat anyone.

“There’s always a chance to embark on a winning streak. However, ensuring support for the players, both physically and mentally, is our primary focus.”

Tottenham’s next match will be a home encounter against Newcastle, marking their first game of 2025 on January 4th.
