Argentina and PSG icon Lionel Messi finally grasped the World Cup trophy last Sunday, leading his team to triumph over France in what has been hailed as the most remarkable final in history.
The Argentinian was also awarded the Player of the Tournament, ensuring he did not depart Qatar empty-handed. Among his elegant keepsakes should be a Middle Eastern garment known as a bisht. The petite star received this garment in recognition of his accomplishment on the world’s foremost platform, with the host country presenting the player regarded as the GOAT with a black and gold robe during the trophy presentation ceremony.
A bisht represents affluence and nobility in the Middle East, and given that Qatar was the first Muslim nation to host this esteemed event, they made significant efforts.
However, Messi has recently been approached with an offer of $1 million from an Omani lawyer eager to take the robe off his hands—or rather, his body. The attorney, Ahmed Al Barwani, also serves as a parliamentary representative in Oman. He reached out on Twitter with a proposal Messi might find appealing.
“From the Sultanate of Oman, I extend my congratulations to you for winning the World Cup Qatar 2022,” he stated. “The Arabic bisht, a symbol of valor and wisdom. I’m proposing a million dollars (£829,000) in exchange for that bisht.”
Ahmed was present at the Lusail Stadium when Messi was acknowledged as world champion, as well as what has now become a highly valuable robe.
“I witnessed that moment live in the stadium when the Emir of Qatar draped the bisht over Messi,” he shared with The National. “This moment showcased to the world that we exist, and this represents our culture, please appreciate it deeply.
“It will be displayed to honor that instance of pride, assist us in reliving it, and serve as a reminder that we can (achieve anything).”
Al Barwani, aged 41, has also conveyed to said publication that he is willing to negotiate if Messi desires more than $1 million.
