Liverpool has reportedly dismissed an inquiry from Real Madrid concerning right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.
According to Sky Sports, no formal bid was submitted for the pivotal defender, who will see his contract expire at the end of the season.
As of midnight on January 1, Alexander-Arnold will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement, allowing him to leave once his contract with Liverpool concludes.
Spanish outlets claim that the Liverpool academy product has communicated his desire to join Real Madrid to the Merseyside club.
However, Los Blancos seem to be probing a potential move for the 26-year-old in January, a request that Liverpool has denied as they continue their pursuit of the Premier League title.
He is among three significant players whose contracts are up this summer, along with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
In December, Alexander-Arnold stated: “I have been at the club 20 years now, I have signed four or five contract extensions and none of those have been played out in public – and this one won’t be either.”
Slot: Trent celebration ‘tells you enough’
Following his goal during Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over West Ham on Saturday, Alexander-Arnold celebrated with a gesture resembling chirping, which seemed to allude to the ongoing speculation about his future.
When questioned about the celebration, Reds manager Arne Slot remarked: “No, I don’t think it’s negative at all. He’s playing really well, scored a fantastic goal, and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough. I don’t think I have to elaborate further on that.
“I’m really pleased with Trent, just as I am with Mo [Salah] and Virgil. So for me, there’s no distinction.
“For the outside world, perhaps there’s a bit more noise surrounding Trent in the media compared to the other two, but I’m satisfied with all three of them at this moment.”
