Lynn Williams, the United States international and all-time leading scorer in the National Women’s Soccer League, has been traded from NJ/NY Gotham FC to Seattle Reign FC, according to multiple sources cited by The Equalizer’s Dan Lauletta.
The specifics of what Gotham FC received in return for Williams have not been disclosed, but several sources confirmed that the transaction has been finalized.
During her two seasons with NJ/NY Gotham FC, Williams played a key role in securing the team’s first NWSL Championship in 2023. She is a four-time NWSL champion and leads the league in all-time goals across all competitions with a total of 80.
At 31 years old, Williams has netted 21 goals in 75 appearances for the U.S. national team. She was part of the squad that clinched an Olympic gold medal in August and also holds an Olympic bronze medal from the Tokyo Games in 2021. Additionally, she was included in the roster for the 2023 World Cup.
Most recently, Williams scored the decisive goal in the USA’s last match of 2024, a 2-1 victory over the Netherlands on December 3.
Originally selected by the Western New York Flash as the sixth overall pick in the 2015 draft, Williams contributed to the team’s NWSL Championship victory in 2016. After the franchise relocated and became the North Carolina Courage, she continued to excel, helping the team to win both the NWSL Shield and NWSL Championship titles in 2018 and 2019. Throughout her career with both franchises, Williams appeared in four consecutive NWSL Championships from 2016 to 2019.
In January 2022, Williams was traded to Kansas City Current but unfortunately missed the entire season due to a severe hamstring injury sustained during the preseason NWSL Challenge Cup.
She was subsequently traded from Kansas City to Gotham FC on draft day in 2023.
