Mohamed Salah has now surpassed Thierry Henry in Premier League goals—yet can we truly compare Liverpool’s Egyptian King to the Arsenal legend?
We’ve examined the statistics to weigh Salah’s Premier League achievements against those of Henry.
Only a select few players—Alan Shearer, Harry Kane, Wayne Rooney, Andrew Cole, Sergio Aguero, and Frank Lampard—have outscored Salah in the Premier League. He currently boasts 176 goals, just one ahead of Henry and one shy of Lampard; thus, he could potentially catch up to Aguero and Cole as the season unfolds.
Salah netted his 176th Premier League goal during Liverpool’s comfortable 4-1 win against Ipswich Town, with two of those goals coming from his brief tenure at Chelsea.
Entering his eighth season at Anfield, Salah’s time at Liverpool mirrors the memorable period Henry had at Arsenal. However, Salah previously made 13 Premier League appearances for Chelsea before rejoining English football with Liverpool, while Henry added four more league games (one goal) in a brief loan return to The Emirates in the 2011-12 season.
It’s noteworthy that Henry has played 27 fewer Premier League matches than Salah, primarily due to a greater struggle with injuries during his career in England. In his final season at Arsenal, Henry participated in only 17 league games, while Salah has nearly played every minute in his eighth season at Liverpool.
In addition to scoring more goals than the player widely regarded as one of the greatest in Premier League history, Salah has also contributed 10 more assists than Henry.
While Henry secured two Premier League titles to Salah’s one and four Golden Boots compared to Salah’s three, the Liverpool forward still has the chance to match these achievements by the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign.
