No team has managed to complete an entire season undefeated in the National Women’s Soccer League. Now, the Orlando Pride stand on the brink of breaking this historic record.
The adage ‘Anyone can beat anyone on their day’ may sound cliché when talking about various leagues, but it rings true in the NWSL. Back in 2018, the formidable North Carolina Courage — featuring talents like Debinha, Lynn Williams, and Crystal Dunn — lost only once during the regular season, surpassing all expectations. This achievement had not been matched by any team before it, including the 2014 Seattle Reign, who began the season with a 16-game unbeaten streak but suffered two losses.
This year, however, the Pride are in a position to outdo that legacy, sustaining an impressive record of 22 games without a defeat. The manner in which Orlando has reached this milestone is as astonishing as the fact that they’ve transformed from a previous underdog into a formidable contender in the NWSL.
This remarkable achievement stems from overcoming challenges. In 2022, the franchise faced turmoil yet again. They were in search of a new head coach for the fourth time in seven years, and the solution was closer than they had anticipated.
