SoFi Stadium, the venue for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, may no longer be a contender to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.
According to a report from The Times, a newspaper based in London, England (h/t Cameron DaSilva of Rams Wire), SoFi Stadium might be too constricted to accommodate the 2026 World Cup Final.
The article from The Times indicated that the existing layout of SoFi Stadium does not provide sufficient width to comply with FIFA’s standards. It also noted that the field would need to be widened by as much as 63 feet.
SoFi Stadium was inaugurated in 2020. It served as the venue for Super Bowl 56, where the Rams faced the Bengals, marking LA as the second team to play in (and win) a Super Bowl hosted at their own facility. Additionally, SoFi Stadium is set to host this year’s much-anticipated WWE WrestleMania 39 event scheduled for April 1-2.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place in Canada, Mexico, and the United States across 16 various venues.
Other NFL stadiums being utilized for the 2026 World Cup include AT&T Stadium (home of the Dallas Cowboys), Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Chiefs), MetLife Stadium (New York Giants and New York Jets), NRG Stadium (Houston Texans), Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia Eagles), Mercedes-Benz Stadium (Atlanta Falcons), Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots), Lumen Field (Seattle Seahawks), Levi’s Stadium (San Francisco 49ers), and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins).
